The best advice I’ve ever taken to heart is- Life is short, eat dessert first.
That said, I’ll keep the intro short too. hehe.
In no particular order, here are my favorites:
1- Opera Cake by L’ami Frenchy; When done right, this is my ultimate guilty pleasure. This French creation is made up of layers of sponge cake, ganache and everything else that dreams are made of.
2- Citron Tart by L’ami Frenchy- Yes, I admit, I have a bias toward French pastries. Deal with it. LOL. This is probably how heaven tastes like.
3- Green Tea Cupcake by Glyco – The amazing kick of green tea flavor makes this a cupcake that’s not nakakasuya. Very zen, this cupcake is.
4- Strawberry Shortcake by Vizco’s- Fresh strawberries on a light sponge cake smothered with a heavenly vanilla frosting. The slight sour taste of fresh strawberries combined with everything else in this cake makes this dessert a Baguio icon.
5- Carlo’s Delight by Tea House– delicious yema-like filling mixed in bits and piece of light sponge cake- and who doesn’t like yema?
6- Tiramisu Cake by Don Henrico’s – hindi tipid mag-serve! That coffee kick in a cake always gets my attention. A really great way to temper the sweetness of everything else.

TIramisu is about 2.5 inches tall, about 4-5 inches long and 1.5-2 inches wide. Every square inch is yum!
7- This Roti dessert by Chef’s Home– Finally, an Asian on my list! 🙂 I love the crunch of the Roti and that mild sesame flavor – and peaches and ICE CREAM! What’s not to like?
8- Ivan Pavolva by Cafe by the Ruins. Ok. Ok. I kid. I kid. It’s just Pavlova. This is something you DON’T always find in the dessert menu in restaurants- so this one’s really worth a try. It’s light, it’s meringue based- and it’s fruity. All that chocolate richness in lots of desserts ain’t for everyone. Sometimes you just want something sweet and light.
9- Deep Dark Chocolate Cake by Hill Station. This always, ALWAYS takes care of my chocolate cravings. It’s rich, it’s moist, it’s dark, it’s got that bitter undertone. Overall, it’s a very VERY sexy chocolate cake.
10- That hot brownie topped with ice cream by Volante – To be fair, any brownie with Vanilla ice cream on top of it will almost always win my heart. This makes the list because I don’t know any other place in Baguio that serves this.
11- Carrot cupcake by Divine Sweet Delights (by order only) – the cream cheese frosting is tart and sweet, the cake is moist and nutty and slightly sweet with a hint of saltiness. I fell in love with this at first bite.
The next couple of desserts are the picks of my friend, Aguinaya, my always-present taste buddy. She will be (or try her best) to – write for Eats in Baguio – as I have been eating in another city, in another country since October. Eats in Chennai, anyone? Hehe
12- Sans Rival by Sizzling Plate– Another Baguio guilty pleasure. We Baguio folks eat this like popcorn- just one mouthful after another. There’s nothing spectacular about it, really, but it is a staple in Baguio parties. Oh, and this cake is the eaaaaaaaaaaaasiest to transport. You can even tuck it in under your arm like a folder or something. 🙂
13- Rum Cake by Waistline Luxuries (available in Cafe d’ Angelo) – dense, just the right sweetness, filling and the rum-flavor is not overpowering. Try doing it ala mode (vanilla ice cream) and it will bowl you over.
14- Peach Mango Tart by Waistline Luxuries will make you forget that the Jollibee peach mango pie ever existed. It’s a tart but is made like a peach-mango open pie. The pie crust is buttery and flaky and once you get to the fruity filling, you’ll not only forget Jollibee’s peach mango pie- but also your name. So make sure to eat this with a name tag on.
Honorable Mentions:
15- Dark Beer Cheescake by Ozark – rich, creamy, tasty and sinful . They’ve got the most unique line up of cheesecakes in Baguio City
16- Kiwi Cake by Kiwi’s Bread and Pastry Shop – . I particularly like the light, refreshing combination of flavors of kiwi fruit and strawberry. Nothing too sweet or overpowering. The combination of textures and fruity flavors is a winner!
17- Prestige Cake by L’ami Frenchy – yep 3rd time in the list. They are , after all- a pastry shop run by a French chef. The mousse at the bottom was light and airy, blended with the custardy- caramel on top and the chocolate in the middle plus the slab of chocolate- on the side. WOW!
18- Green Tea Ice Cream with Azuki Beans by Chaya – Ice cream pleasure minus the guilt. Very zen, this ice cream is . 🙂
19- Special Cassava Cake by Everything Nice- it’s amazingly soft, creamy, coconutty- and best of all, very Pinoy!
In memoriam
20- Ube Crepe- What’s a Baguio visit without something ube, right? Sadly, last time I checked, PNKY near Teacher’s Camp is closed. Not sure where they are now.
And there you have it, folks- a few of my favorite things 🙂
Thank you for the shout-out. While our Dark Beer Cheesecake was created based on our love of beer, we wanted to create other daring cheesecakes. Among the long list (and growing) we also have Chocolate Sili Labuyo, Wasabi Ginger, Durian, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Hoisin (usually served during Chinese New Year). #ozarkdiner
Kindly give us a visit at HOOK’D UP at lower gen. luna (beside 7/11) and have a taste of our KUNAFA 🙂 everything on the menu is affordable and great tasting. Thank you
I love opera cakes! Matry nga yan..
pero depende sa mood ni Chef ah. Some days are better than the others. But good pa rin. hehehe.
#10 is like Hill Station’s Death by Chocolate. Hill Station’s is more of like a mousse a la mode. Still, chocolate topped with Vanilla Ice Cream is heaven! 😄
#10 is like Hill Station’s Death by Chocolate, but I think that their version is more like a mousse and not a brownie. Still, anything chocolate topped by vanilla ice cream is heaven! 😄
